Smart Glasses Policy

No smart glasses

Due to concerns around privacy and data processing, Octocon does not permit the wearing and use of smart glasses during the convention.

Although our Code of Conduct permits personal recordings if permission is given by everyone in the recordings, the additional concerns around smart glasses mean that you may not use them at Octocon even if permission is given.

This applies to all spaces used by Octocon in the Clayton Hotel Cork City.

Anyone found wearing smart glasses in contravention of this policy will be subject to the Code of Conduct process. Any recording using smart glasses will be considered a breach of the Code of Conduct and will result in Octocon membership being revoked.

We appreciate that smart glasses can be an important accessibility tool, and if you use them for this, please get in touch with us at to discuss alternative solutions.

In line with all our policies, we will review this decision for Octocon 2027.
