The Camden Court Hotel

Meeting room at the Camden Court HotelThe new Octocon venue - which unlike our previous location is not going to close anytime soon - is the very salubrious Camden Court Hotel in Dublin 2. It's a three-star hotel located at the top of - go on, guess? - Camden Street! The southern end, for cartographical types. The most obvious landmark beside it is The Bleeding Horse pub. That's a two-storey black 'n' brick allegedly haunted building in front of the main hotel building. You can't miss it and in the unlikely case that you do, just ask anyone in the vicinity where it is. "It's behind you!" they'll mysteriously reply, then they'll run away screaming, "Aaaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhh! They're all doomed! DOOMED!!"

Bedroom at the Camden Court HotelWe have booked several conference rooms for Octocon that will really suit our needs. What's more, the hotel is offering us great rates for accommodation so you won't even have to leave the place for the whole weekend (simply tell them you're coming for Octocon, by phone, and that you'd like your discount rate of €110 per night B&B!). The Camden Court Hotel also has a swimming pool & leisure club for resident guests where you can keep your abs and buns in their usual tight formations. It has been cruely suggested by Nameless Ones that we will be using electroshock security bracelets that will stun members if they leave the hotel. This is a total lie but also may possibly be part of oh-so-hilarious practical jokes throughout the weekend. "I'm just going outside for a smoke." BUZZ! Kuh-thunk! See? Smoking can be bad for you.

How to get there

The Camden Court Hotel is really easy to get to from nearly all directions. It's is about three minutes from the Harcourt Street stop on the LUAS Green line (St Stephen's Green to Sandyford). It's about 10-15 minutes' walk from Grafton Street/South Great George's Street. Several buses pass by the hotel, including the 16, 16A, 19, 19A, 83 and more. Alight at the last stop on Camden Street when heading south.

The Camden Street area has plenty of shops, cafes, pubs and street florists (for when you have no words to express your love) so you ought to be fairly well taken care of. That is, should you actually manage to escape Octocon's razor sharp security net and get out of the hotel. Two great music venues, Whelan's and The Village, are just five minutes down the road on Wexford Street. The hotel also has a restaurant & lounge so either way you won't starve nor die of thirst. Anyway, all the cool Octocon members and special guests will be hanging out in the hotel on Saturday night, and because you're cool, you'll probably end up with them, hotly debating the finale of BSG and other sci-fi geekery.
